Vehicle Tracking Questions About the GPS Tracking Key Pro®

Q: What is a passive vehicle tracking system and how is it different from a real-time GPS tracking system?

A: GPS tracking systems receive signals from satellites in space. They help determine the location of the receiver at regular intervals. Then the user reads or analyzes the vehicle tracking data on a personal computer. Real-time GPS tracking systems post position updates just minutes or seconds after they actually happen. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® and other passive vehicle tracking devices commit those position coordinates to memory. The user retrieves the vehicle tracking device from the vehicle once it returns home from its travels, downloads the data onto computer, and then analyzes it.

Q: If my vehicle gets stolen, will the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system help me recover it?

A: No. If the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device were operating properly, it would record the location the car was taken, but you’d have to access the vehicle in order to remove the GPS Tracking Key Pro® and to download the data. Obviously, that’s not possible in the case of a stolen vehicle. A real-time vehicle tracking device is more practical in this application.

Q: Do I have to commit to an annual contract in order to operate the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device?

A: No. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system involves neither a monthly service fee nor an annual contract because it is a passive device. The receiver’s position is recorded, not transmitted in real time. This is a much more cost-effective method of vehicle tracking.

Q: Will I have to change the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device’s batteries often?

A: It depends on how much the vehicle is driven every day. Also keep in mind that lithium batteries (two 2 AA) will last longer than alkaline. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device will capture up to 80 hours of motion on a single battery charge. Driving two to three hours a day, that’s about 30 days or more.

Q: Are there any alternative power options for the GPS Tracking Key Pro®?

A: Yes, there are two. Besides batteries (two 2AA are included) the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking device can run off the vehicle’s 12V cigarette lighter and it can be hardwired. Specialty cables must be purchased for these options.

Q: I don’t think I need 1-second vehicle tracking. Would I get more life from the batteries in my GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system if I change the sampling rate to every 5 seconds?

A: The sampling rate of the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system can be changed from the preset 1-second vehicle tracking to 5 seconds or even 10 second vehicle tracking, but this will not extend the life of the batteries. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® is either on and using batteries or it is off. Now, if you change the sampling rate to one with a wider margin, there will be less data going to memory, but most GPS Tracking Key Pro users find the 100-hour memory more than adequate.

Q: Will rain and other weather conditions affect performance of the GPS Tracking Key Pro®?

A: The GPS Tracking Key Pro® it is water-resistant, not waterproof. There are rubber gaskets on the major openings to try to prevent water from seeping in. The GPS Tracking Key Pro® will get damaged if water gets inside. Be cautious and keep your Tracking® vehicle tracking device away from water. The warranty does not cover water-damaged vehicle tracking devices.

Q: What happens if my GPS Tracking Key Pro® loses power? Will all the previously-recorded data be wiped out?

A: The GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system has a microchip with 100 hours of memory and when it’s full, the newest data will be recorded over the oldest data. Losing power will not wipe out the memory in this vehicle tracking device.

Q: How is the GPS Tracking Key Pro® data presented?

A: LandAirSea’s Past-Track software – which is free with GPS Tracking Key Pro® purchase – is very user-friendly. Our GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking users have three ways to look at the data. The route can be seen over a digital street map, over Google Earth satellite shots, or in a daily text report.

Q: Does the GPS Tracking Key Pro® work worldwide?

A: The GPS Tracking Key Pro® does vehicle tracking everywhere, worldwide.

Q: What type of people buy the GPS Tracking Key Pro® vehicle tracking system?

Another user segment is business owners, to do vehicle tracking on their fleet or field vehicles.
