Overview
Business owners who want to monitor their vehicles out in the field, but don’t want to pay a monthly service fee to a wireless cell company, will find an affordable solution in the LandAirSea 3100-EXT. It is a small, passive vehicle tracking unit that will track a car or truck’s speed, stops, miles logged and other details of the route second by second. Location accuracy is within 2.5 meters.
Active GPS vehicle tracking units follow a vehicle as it moves along its route, in real time. They involve monthly fees, since they incorporate satellite and wireless technologies. Passive units like the 3100-EXT store travel information for later review. They work solely by GPS satellite transmission capture and cost nothing more than the unit purchase, plus replacement batteries. American Eagle Distribution, a Budweiser distributing company, has successfully implemented the 3100 EXT into its fleet of vehicles for verifying routes traveled and deliveries with high success.
The LandAirSea 3100-EXT GPS tracking system comes with about six feet of detachable, external antenna. It is designed for vehicles, particularly fleet vehicles, where placement of the unit might be challenging. Some trucks, for instance, have deep engine compartments or metal-encased cargo holds, which can block GPS signals. With the 3100-EXT, the receiver can be placed anywhere, as long as the antenna is situated in a position favorable for signal capture.
Over 300 hours of location data can be stored in the 3100-EXT’s internal flash memory. It is later downloaded to a personal computer with a USB cable, included with product purchase. The Past-Track software included with the system gives the user three options for viewing the data on the computer: in a text report, over an animated digital street map or on a Google Earth satellite image.
The 3100-EXT GPS vehicle tracking device is about the size of a man’s wallet or a bar of soap, but it can record a full 36 hours of driving activity on a four (4) AA battery charge. Another power option is connection to a cigarette lighter or hardwiring to the vehicle. The 3100-EXT goes into a sleep mode after a few minutes of inactivity to save power.
This vehicle tracking device is equipped with a series of powerful magnets. The 3100-EXT GPS tracking system is water-resistant, so it will work under a car, but interior mounting is recommended. The external antenna and can capture signals through fiberglass, plastic, glass, carpet and many other materials.
The 3100-EXT is proven useful for:
- Catching speeding drivers
